Perry is born July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mother in both the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not permit her to perform until she was an adult, for fear of the effects stress would have on their daughter. Perry claimed that she was shy to act in high school but began performing in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated into New York in search of acting roles on television. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homelessness drove her to California for theater roles. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes in 2016 of the ABC drama The Family. Her father portrayed her in the ABC Drama Scandal. Also, she was cast on the CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The part was offered by audition despite the fact that she is a relative with the character.
