Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - a Canadian and American artist and singer. She has released over 20 albums of studio work. The music of DiFranco is classified as folk and alternative rock but she also draws influences of jazz and hip-hop. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement being one of the first artists to create her own record label in 1990. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who met Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was of Italian heritage and her mother was a Montreal native. Ani Difrasco wrote and recorded the song "32 Flavors". It is featured on the album Not a Pretty Girl by Ani DiFranco that was released in 1996. One version of this song can be heard on the 1999 Canadian romantic movie Better Than Chocolate. In 2013, DiFranco apologized after it was discovered that she would be hosting the three-day event at the former Louisiana slave plantation. The event was cancelled however, certain (including the media) did not see it as a sign of regret. DiFranco issued a new apology two days following the first.
