Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27, he was enrolled in the National Theatre School of Denmark from which he graduated in 1995. In addition to his appearance in the drama series aired internationally under the name The Killing, he subsequently participated in two other internationally popular Danish dramas: Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He played the role of Charles Augustus Magnussen, a blackmailer, in a scene on BBC drama Sherlock. In the American television show House of Cards, he played the role of the president of Russia. He received an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in the Danish TV drama Herrens Veje. This series was telecast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019. According to Mikkelsen his sources, he learned English from his brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the sketches of comedy.
